The Dance That Drinks Party

We depart from Tornock’s Bridge, down the Vulga River towards the portal to the Unterzee on the Tralf. We stop at several Vulga camps, past the rune ruins of the Twin Cities, to the Naythean Locks. It took almost a day to descend into the Underdark, and the settlement down there. We prepare and supply for 3 days, before moving out. Fuirpleace does some drow learning:

We review our plans for reaching the Sussil Clans: We will be brought to a shore of the great Underdark Sea and must move across the stony shore towards a cavern wall. Compasses are unreliable. Follow the slight incline up, and keep the greatest decline to our left. Moving towards stairs in the ruins of an ancient temple. Take them up, through the temple, to the second-highest exit, and take that. Bearing straight from where the statue points outward, continue past glowing phosphorecent mushroom farms on our left, eventually to Sussil’s outer camps. Another drow clan is nearby, the Mahen. There is a No-Man’s-Land, filled with unpleasantness.

We travel. Along the way, we encounter a giant crab (discouraged from action with the giant’s cannons), some Underdark manticore (“fought”), and eventually get to our landing. We depart towards the cavern wall, a journey expected to take 3-4 days. Along the way, we encounter a stone roper. We decide to go wide, avoiding an encounter, possibly getting a bit lost, and camping eventually in a secure shelter.

The next day, we ride a bit further before coming to a forest of stalagmites. We dismount, moving through, and get ambushed by cragmen! COMBAT!! We dispatch them with minimal challenge, though Wondermitch takes a beating.

We make it to the cavern wall, and continue. We discover some halo mushrooms, which Snirf successfully harvests. As we move further, we come to a campfire, around which are some troglodites. We negotiate for travel through their lands in exchange for some continual flame items. They pack up their pack-gecko, and we move, arriving in the ruins. Judging by the iconography, the ruins look to be originally dedicated to a serpentine god, but is not dedicated to Zevgavizeb, a demon lord of hunger and consumption. We spend most of the day climbing, travelling through tunnels and up stairs. Eventually, we get to a place to rest, and are told tomorrow we will be brought to the great gate to Narvoth.

We ascend, and eventually arrive at the great gate to Narvoth. The trogs tell us this path will take us to an approach from below (better for raiding), but that our originally-provided path way would also work. We thank them, and they tell us their pass-phrase for re-entry in some period of time (“Redin Worm Meal”). We decide we’ll go with it, and take off. We come to a fork, and take the middle path at an incline. We eventually come to a cavern with a plaguebearer otyugh! COMBAT!! We dispatch it with relative ease, finding some basic loot, and continue along the path. We pass some indications of a mushroom farm, and continue until a small cleft in the ceiling, and the tunnel’s end. Fuirpleace squeezes us, and find a stone lantern with a purple glow. He stands along a cavern wall, and sees further purples glows to the left and right. We decide to follow the lanterns.

We decide to follow the lanterns. We eventually come to a campfire of duergar and their slaves. We decide to emancipate. COMBAT!! The duergar die very quickly. We discover the slaves to be 11 trogs, 3 orcs, 2 svirfneblin, a human, and a morlock. Also, there’s a bugbear and some kind of frog-beast thing. We release the trogs, and they raid the saddlebags for food then head for home. We kill the orcs, since Underdark orcs are feral. Snirf frees the svirfneblin, who turn out to be whiny bitches. The vulga asks to be returned top-side. Harvey kills the morlock. We negotiate with the svirfneblin for them to guide us to Sussil territory, but first decide to head to the nearby trading post we heard of. We divy up some loot, and head off to the trading post.

We call it there for the night.
